We’ve got your first look at “Pennywise the Clown” from next year’s big screen It movie! If you have a fear of clowns, this story may not be for you. Clowns are creepy and none more so than Stephen King’s “Pennywise” from the classic coming-of-age horror novel, It. A new big screen adaption is set to arrive in theaters next year and today we’re getting our first official look at new “Pennywise” Bill Skarsgard via Entertainment Weekly. For those of you unfamiliar with King’s novel or the 1990 TV movie starring Tim Curry, “Pennywise” is not your ordinary clown. “It” is a demonic entity that likes to take the form of a clown in order to lure children, his preferred snack of choice. Regarding the character, Skarsgard said quote, “It’s such an extreme character. Inhumane. It’s beyond even a sociopath, because he’s not even human. He’s not even a clown. I’m playing just one of the beings It creates.” With Tim Curry being so synonymous with the role, Skarsgard says he will attempt to do his own take on the character rather than attempt to recreate what Curry did. One major change to the character will be his age. In the film he will be closer in age to the children of the small town that attempt to shed their fears in order to destroy him. Skarsgard explained that his version of “Pennywise” will be more child-like than Curry’s with It being more of a twisted reflection of the kids rather than a creepy middle-aged predator. Another big change in the new film will be the timeline with the movie taking place in the 1980s instead of the 50s. The film will also not tell the complete story of It and will instead focus on the children in their younger days and their first attempt at taking It down. If the first film is successful, a sequel will complete the story and focus on the kids as adults once again facing off against the deadly clown. As for what Stephen King thinks of this new interpretation of his creation, he told EW quote, “It’s a scary clown, but to me they’re all scary.” So, what do you think of the new “Pennywise” and how do you think he will compare to Tim Curry’s original?
