The holy Quran is a comprehensive scripture. It contains a pattern of complete way of life. The Muslims who strongly believe in their religion Islam believe that Islam is superior to any other religion in that it guarantees happiness in man's life. For the Muslims Islam is a belief system with moral and practical laws that have their source firmly codified in the holy Quran.
Allah addresses Prophet Muhammad in the holy Quran concerning the comprehensiveness of His message:
"And no question do they bring to you but We reveal to you the truth and the best explanation (thereof)" Quran 25:33
Divine knowledge is a fathomless ocean but glimpses of it can be obtained by any individuals sincerely searching for the truth. When concrete questions arise by the logic of events and they are answered not only for the occasion, but from a general stand-point, the teaching derived through such answer has a far greater chance of penetrating the human intelligence and taking shape in practical conduct. Questions answered by Allah through the revelation of the holy Quran are not limited in essence to the era of the holy Prophet but rather extended in application to the eternity and the entire humanity.
Allah also says: "...And We have sent down to you the book explaining all things, a guide, a mercy and glad tidings to Muslims." Quran 16:89
The above two scriptural references are just examples of the numerous Quranic verses(ayah) which underscore the importance of the holy Quran as a complete and comprehensive guide to the Muslims in every day-to-day activities of their lives. The Quran contains the general principles of religious beliefs, moral virtues and a comprehensive legal system governing all aspects of human behaviors. The holy Quran, being the divine constitution of Islam, provides a comprehensive program of activities for man's life.
The holy Quran, as a manual to be used for all ages and all nations, is like a code or formula that can easily be interpreted and applied to suit every occasion. Otherwise what is the significance of a divine guidance? Right from the time of the noble Prophet Muhammad and his esteemed companions the holy Quran has served as a national and international constitution and all-purpose code of conduct. It has successfully served as a perfect manual for both private matters and public affairs, and as a practical guide in spiritual, political, economic and inter-personal issues.
Islam, being the total submission to the will of Allah should, by implication, provide very accurate and comprehensive constitution-like guidelines on what Allah commands and what He prohibits. Without a very accurate set of principles as well displayed in the holy Quran all this total submission and comprehensiveness of Islam would be meaningless.
The holy Quran therefore leaves no stone unturned in providing complete and comprehensive guidance and perfect solution to human problems. The guidelines are stated either explicitly that everybody can interpret or implicitly left for some few people like the holy Prophet Muhammad ( May Allah's peace and blessing be on him), his companions and subsequently the Islamic scholars to interpret the Quranic dictates to the ordinary layman who cannot understand the rules and principles of Islam directly from the Quran.
