YA Ink- Writing Contests!

I wish luck to anyone who plans on entering writing contests. They are extremely hard to win because winning means you not only have to be a good writer, but one of the best. But because of that, when you do win, it is an amazing accomplishment that you should be proud of! Linked below are the three websites I talk about in the video where you can enter contests, publish short stories or find blog posts about writing (very similar to the video I write).

한글날 기념 '제25회 외국인 한글백일장' 개최
On Sunday, Koreans will celebrate the creation of the Korean alphabet Hangul, which gained global recognition for consistency and practicality among other qualities.
One university is celebrating the day early with a Korean language contests for foreigners.
Our Kim Hyesung takes us there.
October 9th is a holiday in Korea known as Hangul Day that commemorates the invention of the Korean alphabet in the 15th century by King Sejong the Great.
In celebration of the day, over 22-hundred people from 74 countries gathered at Yonsei University's outdoor amphitheater on Friday... for the 25th annual Korean Language Writing Contest.

"The contestants were given about 90 minutes to write either a poem on 'the present' or an essay on 'a guest' before turning it in to the judges."

Foreigners who have lived in Korea for less than eight years are eligible to participate in the contest, and some shared their reasons for studying Korean.

"The Pyeongchang Winter Olympics is 2018 and my goal is to become a curling coach here in Korea. So I realized I need to learn Korean to live and survive here. "

With just 24 letters, Hangul is often praised by linguists as one of the most scientific alphabets in the world, and was inscribed on UNESCO's Memory of the World heritage list in 1997.
The number of foreigners studying Korean has also grown, as evidenced by the increasing number of participants at Yonsei's writing contest.
Registration has jumped seven-fold in the time since the contest started -- going from 300 in 1992 to 22-hundred this year.

"I've lived in Korea for over three years now, and this is my third time participating in this writing contest. I've passed level four of the Korean language proficiency test, and I want to keep studying Korean and so I participated in the contest."

As the judges deliberated over the writings, the students enjoyed martial arts demonstrations by taekwondo athletes.
Then, it was time for the awards ceremony.
Seventy-one winners were announced, and the grand prize of a trophy and 890 U.S. dollars went to two students, one from China and the other from Venezuela.
And their tips for learning Korean?
Make as many Korean friends as you can, read books in Korean and practice your writing.
