Facebook deactivates a mom’s account after she posted a tandem breastfeeding photo - TomoNews

LEBANON, MISSOURI — A mother of five has become a celebrity of sorts in the breastfeeding/mom community on Facebook when her account was deactivated because she posted photos of herself breastfeeding two babies at the same time.

Rebecca Wanosik from Lebanon, Missouri, shared two photos of herself breastfeeding her daughter and another baby on Facebook, hoping to empower mothers. In the post she explained that she received a text from a friend asking if she would mind breastfeeding a stranger’s baby. The baby’s mother, who exclusively breastfed, was having surgery and the baby was refusing the bottle.

“When the baby arrived you could tell she was hungry and refused the bottle,” Wanosik wrote. “I did what I hope any person would do for my child in a time of despair. I fed a strangers baby.”

The photo was featured on Breastfeeding Mama Talks page and garnered tremendous support.

But some critics were concerned that the mothers were being irresponsible, saying that Hep B and HIV could have spread to the child. It isn’t known whether Wanosik actually suffers from either one of these disease.

Ultimately, Facebook decided the photo was inappropriate and deactivated Wanosik’s account. Her husband came to her defense, and publicized the takedown on Breastfeeding Mama Talks page.

Wanosik apparently won this battle, as her account was reinstated, and she continues to defend her tandem breastfeeding moment.

Wanosik and her husband have four other children through marriage. Their daughter, one of the babies in the photo, is their first child together.

But this isn’t the first time the mom made headlines. Last year, all five of Wanosik’s children were taken and placed in foster care after authorities found the youngest, the baby girl, had suffered a broken arm and three fractured ribs. Worried about abuse within the home, all five children were taken away.

A doctor later found that the baby’s bones were too brittle due to a vitamin D deficiency. According to the CDC, breast milk alone does not provide infants with an adequate intake of vitamin D.

All children were ultimately returned to Wanosik’s custody.
