Camping In The New Forest

The New Forest is situated in the beautiful Hampshire area in the south of England. Due to its immense natural charm, huge numbers of tourists flock to the region, particularly for weekend breaks and during school holiday periods.

The facilities have evolved over the years in the New Forest National Park to include many campsites featuring luxury facilities, which are often recently refurbished to high standards and include many modern features, so the days of the grubby shower blocks are long gone.

Planning the break in the New Forest region is the start of the fun. There are huge numbers of tourist attractions on offer, from wildlife reserves to water parks, and it is particularly well geared towards the families which visit. You will find plenty of small villages, boasting quaint tea rooms and gift shops, and numerous organised paths throughout the countryside to explore.

Due to the positioning in the far south of the UK, the weather tends to be more reliable than in other British resorts, and even when the heavens open, you will find plenty of indoor activity opportunities such as sport centres to keep the kids occupied.

With recent innovations in tents, the simplicity of packing the car at home and driving down to the campsite is much easier, knowing that you've over got a 20 minute task to assemble the accommodation for the next few days! Choosing the campsite is definitely a key aspect to your holiday planning exercise. Most guidebooks about the area will be able to tell you which are family friendly, or equally importantly not family friendly if you're looking for a quiet break. Similarly you will also find details of the facilities each campsite is able to offer. For example, whether pitches have electrical hook up points might be important or the availability of a swimming pool.

You might want to use Google or Bing Maps (formerly Multimap) to help you choose your ideal spot to base your holiday around. They will give you quick information about how long it will take you to drive to attractions, and also might highlight other points of interest that you otherwise wouldn't have considered. One thing is for sure though, you won't fit everything into a fortnight, and some will have to wait until your next visit.

Catering for your family is simple. There are plenty of supermarkets across the region, not to mention local produce (a great tip is to buy this from the small villages, the quality is excellent!) if you wish to go primarily for an eat in the tent approach. Eating out comes hugely recommended too, there are tons of public houses which ooze character offering food at reasonable prices, or for a more sophisticated experience there are numerous specialist restaurants. Try typing village names and your preferred style of food into Google for ideas.

Take your time with planning and you'll be sure to create the perfect break and take home some fantastic memories.
